We look everyday at the photos that Mahlon took of our children 21 years ago... Mahlon at the time convinced us to have our children's photos printed as large works of art. Mahlon Burch is no ordinary photographer. He has an uncanny knack of quickly being able to capture the personality of his subjects in a single sitting. We wanted him to capture us in our "happy place" at our beach house. That involved Mahlon staying in the house with us overnight. It was a pleasure to have him around. He is quirky and creative but at the same time unobtrusive. He really captured the essence of the people (my three almost adult children and my husband and me) and the place. The process of shooting was a pleasure. Mahlon has a delightful sense of humor and is able to very quickly put his subjects at ease. He has what I would call an 'original' eye and has a fresh and vibrant approach to his work. It is perfectly composed without being posed. Mahlon produced a perfectly presented leatherbound album for us which we treasure as a reminder of a particularly happy time in our lives. I like to think it will be in the family for many generations to come. It has that heirloom quality about it.

We had no reservations about working with Mahlon on a long distance basis. We selected Mahlon as our family photographer because his work is more original and he is able to capture the essence of each child's personality. Other factors that influenced our choice were his timing, international flexibility, fee, and follow up. Mahlon is more interested in the subject than in just photographing them and finishing the job. The relationship is an important element to him. For me, the overall experience was one of life's highlights, a beautiful experience that gave me great joy. Our children adore the albums and are full of fond Memories of Mahlon. We really enjoyed our shoots with Mahlon over the years. He got to know our children well and watched them grow up. Mahlon always worked very hard to get the perfect shots and I loved the way he would enquire around the house looking for the right spot or prop. Many of Mahlon works grace our home but one of my favourites is one of my 90 year old grandmother with my daughter Bex at 1 year old and ‘brothers in arms’ taken 25 years ago.

Mahlon, started taking photos of our family (my brother and I) in 1993, we then hired him to take a series of photos for a PR grabbing ad campaign which he nailed. He is very creative and will capture a shot summing up the subject beautifully.

You took a photo three summers ago of Mark launching off the dock with his skateboard. That picture now hangs above his bed. Mark and I wanted to tell you how awesome we think it is. Every time we look at it, we admire the perfection in the shot. It seems totally B & W but in fact it has little splashes of color if you look closely and Mark's form is spectacular! The way the shot came out makes it infinitely intriguing, like a great piece of art from one of the masters. We really enjoy it and wanted you to know it!
